All Things Bright and Beautiful

Keeping Track of Our Discoveries

Posted in Book Recommendations by naturejournaler on the June 8, 2007

The past few years our family has been big into discovering all we can about nature. It’s been so neat learning about God’s creation and discovering more and more new things. I feel like I’ve become more sensitized to the world around me and I see things through a different set of eyes.

It all started when we bought the book, “Pet Bugs” and “More Pet Bugs” by Sally Kneidel. Our family started looking for all the bugs in these books. We invested in terrariums and did our best to keep bugs alive. Unfortunately there was the time when my 5 year-old at the time son didn’t understand that 20 grasshoppers can’t live in a terrarium together. He had his favorite large green grasshopper that he called “the green guy”. Unfortunately, the green guy had an early death by a canibal in the terrarium with him. My son was mortified but learned his lesson well!

Since then, we’ve seen so many wonderful creatures. In starting this blog, I’d like to keep track of them all in one place. I take pictures of them, write about them but all of those memories are scattered around. I’d love to share the discoveries we make with others and encourage others to start seeing things around them, recording them, and remembering them! I do have a nature journal that the children and I are doing on paper as well, but it will be nice to have a place to store all the pictures and quickly type of the stories as we learn and discover each day.
